Grey Infrastructure

Grey infrastructure is the use of traditional man-made  drainage and water treatment systems which includes but is not limited to pipes, tanks, and waste treatment plants. This kind of infrastructure follows a storm water as waste kind of mindset.

Charactersitics

  • Heavier dependence on man-made structures

  • Harder surfaces

  • Stores water

  • Depreciates (loses value)

  • Brought to full scale at a faster rate

  • Typically higher maintenance

  • Less environmentally sustainable

  • Has only one main benefit, which is the reduction of CSOs.

The people behind this work are stemming from Dr. Foxes Environmental Science Class. We have been extensively learning about NYC water and how to preserve it's quality since September and have done many trips and projects to learn and spread awareness about our findings.
