If there's a storm nearby or heading your way then take a shorter shower, or sometimes, it better to just skip a shower. The average shower uses over 17 gallons of water. You can make a big difference!
TAKE SHORTER SHOWERS
By letting it mellow, it means you aren't flushing your toilet an unnecessary amount of times. Believe it or not, a lot of water get's utilized within every flush. Help prevent CSOs and minimize how many times you flush per day.
LET IT MELLOW
What better excuse to not wash those dishes you've been trying to avoid. Putting off any activities that utilize a lot of water during a storm can be very efficient towards preventing CSOs!
PUT OFF DISHES
There are many websites and accounts online that alert when is the right time to not shower, or put off the dishes because a storm is coming. Follow @combinedsewer for CSO alerts or online at CSO waterbody advisorys.
RECEIEVE CSO ALERTS
Tell other people what you've learned about CSOs! Make a post on social media or tell a friend. The more people know, the better!
RAISE AWARENESS
Riverkeeper is an organization that's concerned about saving rivers and protecting NYC's waterways. They host educational coalition meetings, testify at public hearings, write letters/public comments, meet with elected officials.
